Internationalism Good - Patriotism Bad

After reading the article in The Guardian by George Monbiot (yes he is a Moonbat), I think I understand the ultra-left here in America a bit better.:

Monbiot - Moonbat

Monbiot is an internationalism fan not a fan of patriotism because as he says:

I don't hate Britain, and I am not ashamed of my nationality, but I have no idea why I should love this country more than any other. There are some things I like about it and some things I don't, and the same goes for everywhere else I've visited. To become a patriot is to lie to yourself, to tell yourself that whatever good you might perceive abroad, your own country is, on balance, better than the others. It is impossible to reconcile this with either the evidence of your own eyes or a belief in the equality of humankind. Patriotism of the kind Orwell demanded in 1940 is necessary only to confront the patriotism of other people: the second world war, which demanded that the British close ranks, could not have happened if Hitler hadn't exploited the national allegiance of the Germans. The world will be a happier and safer place when we stop putting our own countries first.

I think the ultra-liberals internationally suffer from an everything patriotic is an Orwell or Vietnam type evil syndrome. Can't you see the same rational here in America's ultra-left as it relates to patriotism? They think patriotism is bad and dangerous, because it unites us and promotes strength. Tribes bad, alliance with other tribe worse, causes war..................

I would agree that could be a bad thing if it was a blind patriotism and we were invading Canada but in this very serious war against terrorism, it is our most important strength. The right side of the ultra-left embraced patriotism for awhile as the fire burned and smoke rose at the WTC, but shortly afterwards they joined the left wing ultra-left and insisted that patriotism is evil.

I don't get this kind of thinking, and quiet honestly don't want to. The world is not a communal place full of love and honesty. There is a very real and dangerous enemy out there that wants to destroy democracy. The liberals don't get it, and probably never will. This weekend the leader of our Habit For Humanity Team asked me to go ask for a tool from the neighboring house. He said it is a communal environment and we all share......................Well in this communal environment one person from each team/tribe had a job that was to guard the supply trailer from other tribes stealing their stuff. That's not a communal environment, and reality has to at some point overcome fantasy about the utopia that the liberals have created in their fantasy world.

Patriotism has guided this country through wars and the toughest of times, and those with an internationalism conviction don't get what it takes I say to be American and really understand what America is all about. It's not "free", that is the most important thing to understand.....................
