Trent Lott Calls For Rove's Head - Pay Back Time

Trent Lott is questioning whether Karl Rove and others should resign and whether President Bush should re-shuffle his White House Staff after the Libby indictment:

Lott

Per the Mississippi Senator:

Republican Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi said Bush should be on the lookout for "new blood, new energy, qualified staff, new people in administration." He said poor advice may have even contributed to the failed nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

Senator Lott did not go as far on the matter as the Democrat leadership, but he was whistling the same tune for sure:

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said he is disappointed that Bush and Cheney responded to the indictment by lauding Libby and suggested they should apologize for the leak that revealed the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame.

Meanwhile, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., said Cheney should "come clean" about his involvement and why he discussed Plame with Libby before Libby spoke to reporters about her. "What did the vice president know? What were his intentions?" Dodd asked on "Fox News Sunday. Now, there's no suggestion the vice president is guilty of any crime here whatsoever. But if our standard is just criminality, then we're never going to get to the bottom of this," Dodd said.

So what is driving the Magnolia State Senators opinion on this matter? I'd suggest that this story that recounts his fall from power in 2002 might have a great deal to do with it:

Lott's Fall

Senator Lott as you will remember praised former Senator Strom Thurmond and his 1948 Dixiecrats who advocated segregation and said this at Sen. Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday:

the country "wouldn't have had all these problems over the years" if it had elected Thurmond president in 1948.

Lott of course lost the confidence of his fellow Republicans to be their Senate leader after such a statement and rightfully so. I found it offensive and did not want him to be a leader in my party after the remarks. Many people who know Lott best including African Americans defended Lott and said that he was not a racist, which I will defer to those who know him best to decide. Fair enough, and in the end when it all played out I don't think he is a racist but a leader of the Senate can not make such a statement and retain their leadership role.

It appears that Senator Lott's call for Rove's head and the head of others is pay back time for a lack of backing from the President and the Republican leadership after his Dixiecrat comment. He is gunning for revenge and payback. As they say in Washington it is brutal place where throats are slit for seemingly minimal reasons. I think Lott is a revengeful Dixiecrat welding a knife who wants to make others pay for his mistake back in 2002 and his self induced fall from power...................

There is an Italian Proverb that says: "keep your enemies closest". If I were the White House I'd be keeping the Magnolia State Senator "very" close right now. He is a vengeful man with a knife to grind................................
