Louisiana Top Flood Funding At $1.9 Billion Under Bush Adm

Although Louisiana received more funding for Corps civil works project than any other state under President Bush’s term ($1.9 billion), Moveon won’t let the facts get in the way of their political agenda nor will the Democrats in Congress this story seems to tell:

MoveOn

Moveon is gathering hurricane victims and protesting outside the White House because they say lack of funding caused this disaster:

According to Rep. Waxman, "the budget of the Corps of Engineers for construction projects in New Orleans district was cut by over 40% between 2001 and 2005, apparently to free up funds for the war in Iraq and homeland security projects. In 2004, for the first time in 37 years, the Corps halted all work on the New Orleans levee system."

However per WaPo, Louisiana had plenty of money to spend on levees had the state government not pork barreled the funding:

WaPo

Much of that Louisiana money was spent to try to keep low-lying New Orleans dry. But hundreds of millions of dollars have gone to unrelated water projects demanded by the state's congressional delegation and approved by the Corps, often after economic analyses that turned out to be inaccurate. Despite a series of independent investigations criticizing Army Corps construction projects as wasteful pork-barrel spending, Louisiana's representatives have kept bringing home the bacon. . . .

So I guess MoveOn and the other political activist who are telling us to stop criticizing local and state government, really mean stop seeking the truth………………..

As I’ve posted earlier, Louisiana and New Orleans are extremely corrupt governments and have been for many years. That doesn’t change the misery that the citizens are experiencing or reflect on them. However, the degree of corruption that we will see over the next weeks and months coming out about New Orleans and Louisiana will be staggering and like this story will continue to show why things went so very wrong in this disaster. The political dirty laundry that is going to come out from New Orleans and Louisiana will be filthy……………………………….
